By its eleventh expansion pack, the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) Elder Tale (エルダー・テイル Erudā Teiru?) has become a global success, with a user base of over millions of players. However, during the release of its twelfth expansion pack: Novasphere Pioneers (ノウアスフィアの開墾 Nōasufia no Kaikon?, alt. Homesteading the Noosphere),[1] thirty thousand Japanese gamers who are all logged on at the time of the update, suddenly find themselves transported into the virtual game world and donning their in-game avatars. In the midst of the event, a socially awkward gamer named Shiroe, along with his friends, Naotsugu and Akatsuki, decide to team up so that they may face this world, which unfortunately has now become their reality, along with the challenges and obstacles ahead of them.

Originally an almost-graduate engineering student, he gets entrapped in the world of Elder Tale, trying out the game's new expansion after not playing it for quite a while. He is a former member of the Debauchery Tea Party, having earned legendary status as strategist during his time with the group.

Akatsuki

Subclass: Tracker

A young woman who likes to roleplay as ninja when gaming. After she entered Elder Tale, she sought Shiroe's help to change her appearance so as to be closer to her looks in real life. Feeling indebted to Shiroe, she vows to serve him.

Naotsugu

Race/Gender: Human/Male
Class/Level: Guardian/Lv.90
Subclass: Border Guard

A former member of the Debauchery Tea Party, he is one of Shiroe's close friends in the game. Having reunited after gets trapped inside Elder Tale, Shiroe decides to team up with him and Akatsuki.

As a Guardian, Naotsugu represents the Stone Wall build type of the class, Fortress.

Nyanta

Class/Level: Swashbuckler/Lv.90
Subclass: Chef

A former member of the Debauchery Tea Party, he is the person who saved Serara from members of Brigandia in Susukino and has since then accompanied her to ensure her safety while waiting for Shiroe's rescue party. Decides to follow Shiroe's party back to Akihabara upon their arrival in Susukino.
